Disneyland, California | California Wedding Photographers

Steve and I went out to California last August to photograph Courtney & Jacob’s wedding in Bodega Bay.  Right after the wedding reception, we started our 6+ hour drive to Anaheim.  We knew there was no way we were going to be that close to Disneyland and NOT go!  Plus, with Steve being a Disney World Cast Member, we get into the parks for free (#CastMemberPerks)!!!  We were only planning to go for one day, but we arrived with enough time to do a partial day plus a full day.

So, I am going to *finally* share our photos.  Grab a cup of coffee/tea/whiskey and a bowl of popcorn.  Sit back.  Relax.  Enjoy our MANY pictures (many more to be posted soon to Facebook!).  There are so. many. pictures.  First – this was our very first time visiting.  Second – we are photographers.  Sooooo…  #SorryNotSorry

…………………………………………………………..

Driving to Land is so much different than driving into World…  Walgreens, gas stations, hotels, etc.  Just like any typical city.  With Disneyland in the middle….

California Adventure gate looks just like Hollywood Studios…

The Train Station is so small.  In fact, most of Main Street is so small.

We walked in just as their parade was going by…

First time seeing Sleeping Beauty’s Castle….

It was strange to be on Main Street, USA knowing what should be there and where and not having it there.  And it’s about half the size.

Steve had an important phone call!

Walt & Mickey are taller than the Castle!

We stayed to watch the Paint the Night Parade.  Unfortunately, it was too windy for fireworks.  Very disappointing, but the parade was awesome.  We seriously need it at World…

Store windows…

The light left on for Walt (or so I saw in one of those shows about Disney on the travel Channel…).

According to the sign, this is the actual bench Walt sat on when he thought of Disneyland.

We had gone into a show about Abraham Lincoln.  We came out and Minnie was there!

The next day, Steve brought his camera, too.  😉

This is where we had breakfast (Starbucks).  We were very pleasantly surprised.  It was really good and fresh.  Definitely better than World.  We also saw a group of Disney World Cast Members and chatted with them for a minute.

A real, live vineyard…

THIS is what we were really looking forward to.  We were not disappointed.  It was like walking directly into the movie.  Definitely our favorite area of both parks.

This is the one ride we were really looking forward to.  When we arrived at park open, wait times were already at 90 minutes.  So, Steve and I decided to ride the Single Rider.  We rode twice in less than 30 minutes.  The second time, the CM made a mistake and we were able to ride together.  Again, this is a ride/area we need in World…

That is me just peeking out of the yellow car.  Steve was in the car behind me.  😉

Now this kid shows some TRUE dedication to Disney!

Inside the ride…

I love the details.  Disney is always all about the details…

I found Steve hiding in the bushes!  Our brides and grooms are used to this.  😉

I recognize that shadow…

I was so excited to try the Buffalo Ranch, because I LOVE (like seriously need a 12 step program, LOVE) the Buffalo Bleu Cheese popcorn in EPCOT.  I was disappointed.  EPCOT’s is by far better.

Riding the red trolley…

Monster’s Inc. has a ride!

They gave this to us before entering.  Not really sure what it was for.

In Land, they have Marvel characters.  We did not see any, however…

We saw that trolley so many times!  This time, Mickey was riding…

We took a drawing class and learned to draw Tigger…

Again with the details…

This was our stop for lunch.  We had the World of Color dining package – lunch at Wine Country Trattoria and preferred viewing for World of Color that evening.  Lunch was absolutely DELICIOUS!

It smelled so good in here…

Back to Magic Kingdom…

WHERE is the Castle???

We wanted to ride the Monorail.  This is the line above the submarine ride (can’t remember the name…)…

The Matterhorn…

Because this is what we do!

Mine!  Mine!  Mine!

Small World was absolutely adorable!

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.  Not sure how wild, because we didn’t ride.

Back to California Adventure…

We went to see Frozen: The Musical.  We were quite disappointed, but lots of opportunity for pictures…

This ride was SO CUTE!!!  We laughed and laughed while riding.  Watch a video of it HERE

As we were waiting in line, I saw this little car and really wanted it.  When it was our turn to ride, people went RUNNING to get in their cars.  Someone took this one, so we started for another one.  then, those people got out (no clue why) and took a different car.  This was the only one left by the time we were able to get a car.  I was happy!  It’s so cute!

We made our way to Paradise Pier to watch World of Color.  We had “preferred viewing”.  I really wish I knew what this meant before going.  What this means – if the wind is blowing in a certain direction, you end up completely soaking wet.  Drenched!  I wish I had known.  So, I am warning you if you happen to go and get “preferred viewing”.  🙂

See?  Soaked!

The park technically closed after World of Color ended.  We slowly made our way out.  However, we needed to stop in Cars Land, again.  Neon lights.  Extended exposure.  Perfect place to do some experiments…

Steve caught this picture.  I think it’s so cool.  Look at the people rushing around this family getting their picture taken.  😉

Lightning McQueen was making one last drive before heading home…

I get asked all of the time how we liked Disneyland.  Which do we like better?  Disneyland or Disney World?  I say it’s like comparing Chicago deep dish to New York style pizza.  Do you like a full meal or a snack?  I like both, depending on the day.  Disney World will always have my heart.  It’s our home.  It took me in, open arms, no questions asked, just days after my world crashed.  I worked there for almost 4 years.  I’m happy to live so close and able to visit as often as we do.

Disneyland is the original.  It was Walt’s idea.  He walked it.  He designed it.  I would be crazy to not acknowledge that.  It’s cute.  There are some things done better in Disneyland.  There are some things done better in Disney World.  They are different.  One is a snack.  One is a meal.  I appreciate both.  I enjoy both.  I think we would do ourselves and the parks a disservice to compare the two.

We will be traveling back to California this May to photograph another wedding.  We are hoping to make it back to Disneyland while we are there.  We look forward to it.
